Range Time

I still like to socialize while shooting, but I guess I don't see a trip to the range just to go send lead downrange as a fun thing anymore.

This past weekend I met up with reader and brownie-making-extraordinaire Laughingdog for some trigger time at the local gun range. Now that I’ve gotten my taste of USPSA, static lane shooting isn’t the same any more. I enjoyed the time and the company but while I was shooting I was specifically focusing on my trigger control as well as some double tap exercises to better myself.

I remember when just the thrill of the BOOM was enough. Now? If I have to stand static in a lane, I’m going to be ensuring I’m getting something else out of the trip.

I was in your shoes a couple years ago. I had got into competition and was seeking places to shoot outside the lame old same old public ranges. The good news is after 2 or 3 matches, I got the skinny on joining the private clubs. Ask the guys (and girls) you shoot with at your matches where they practice. Some clubs you need someone to sponsor your membership so be extra friendly and impress them with your skill (and more importantly, your safety)! Your state has to be better than mine (CA). I used to be the member of 3 private clubs but it looks like I'm trimming it down to the one club I go to all the time. They're definitely out there.

Almost all of my coworkers are women and all of my family is, so going to the range is a weekly opportunity for me to interact with men.
