My wife and I have quite a few items from Ikea in the house. Their Expedit shelves are handy, inexpensive, and decent enough looking that we’ve got several of ‘em in a few rooms. I’ve learned over the years that shelves and storage space is king, and the more places you have to shove stuff, the less it ends up on the floor.
Over the holiday, my wife wanted me to pick up another set with the desk attachment for the girls, so I did. Of course, at the foot of the door there’s a gun-busters sign to remind midget thugs they can’t bring in pistols. If you’re above 3’7”, it’s easy to miss. I probably didn’t see it myself and thus, the ‘weapons free environment’ wasn’t.
In Florida, these silly signs carry no weight, as they shouldn’t. I’ve literally walked into the wrong store as I was trying to get my young children out of the road, so assuming everyone will read every last detail on the door is ridiculous. If asked to leave, you must (and should) otherwise you’re armed trespassing, and that’s enough to get you a free stay in the grey-bar hotel. There are a lot of places here in Florida that put up these signs, and for the most part they put them 6” off the ground. One assumes they want to cover their bases without pissing off a large portion of Floridians, but it’s a joke nonetheless.
This is where we have anti-gunners by the logical nuts. Those signs have absolutely no impact on crime or customer safety.
How many criminals intend to rob a store and are turned away by the No-Guns signs? Not a single one. If they were persuaded by a sign, then one that said “No robbing of this establishment” would be just as effective. That’s not the goal though. Never has been, never will be. Only the law abiding care about abiding by the law, and the false sense of security ‘gun free zones’ do nothing but ensure thugs have a risk free environment to attack.
Well, less risk. Some of us simply do not care about ‘gun free zones’.
