Last week Ry called my attention to a ‘contest’ on AR15.com where a guy was looking for a logo for his construction company in trade for a Beretta 92FS. I tried, but I didn’t win.
Too bad for me. I don’t have a 9mm pistol and I have a soft spot in my heart for the Beretta 92 because that’s the first handgun I ever fired. My dad had one when I was growing up (I guess that’s what the cops had back in the early 70’s? I don’t know, I’ll have to ask) and that’s what I cut my gunny teeth on, so I’ve always wanted to get one just to have. I thought this was a decent way to try to get one too.
Much like 99Designs.com works, I think this is a valid way of getting good work done from multiple sources. I’m not bitter that I lost as I didn’t put a ton of time into the logo and mostly gave out a sketch rather than a finished product. I realize not everyone likes the same formats that I do and the guy who did win went all Web 2.0 on his so there was a bit of ooh & ah to help him along.
There’s a contest to win a rifle that I’m planning on entering (this pertains to video) and of course my Sticks of Fire patch entry into Correia’s contest has at least made a decent showing (although I’m far from being close enough to be the winner), so there’s other venues for me to lose in too.
I’m just glad there’s no federal laws stating that everyone must be declared a winner. At least, not yet. I’m sure some idiot is working on it though.
