When an honestly mistaken man sees the truth, one of two things happens: (1) he will either cease to be mistaken, or (2) he will cease to be honest. For he will either accept the truth or he will reject it. If he accepts it, he is no longer mistaken; if he rejects it, he is no longer honest. It is as simple as that.

This came up in #gunblogger_conspiracy during the discussion of the recent Gibson Guitar raid. Let’s look at the multi-level fail here.

  • Gibson was being raided over a law from another country - a raid indicates that any persons who resisted forfeited their lives and that the raiders could have slaughtered them and maintained legal protection.
  • Following the infinite reams of law in this country alone is hard enough, following laws in lands and languages not your own is even less of a possibility.
  • Gibson CEO is a donor to Republican causes, and their competitor, Martin, has a CEO who donates to Democrats. And uses the same wood. And remained raid-free. Regardless if the politics were of any consequence, this is a clear case of selective enforcement.

But what bothered me the most was that every single person who participated in the physical raid did so. They had enough people willing to kill other human beings over pieces of wood that a raid was possible. Not one of them went “You want me to put people’s lives in jeopardy because they purchased wood in a manner that even India doesn’t really enforce?”

Those people are a shame to society. Each and every one of them involved should be shunned from polite company. They can go congregate with the TSA agents and other dregs of society.
