Florida- Lee law change would allow guns, ammunition on RSW airport property [Update – from the comments, it appears this article may contain incorrect information. I’ll look into it more as I have time, but caveat emptor as they say]

If I’m considered safe to have a firearm right here, 3” to my left isn’t going to make a difference. Neither is 3’, 3km, or 3 astronomical units. Where I am has nothing to do with my ability or desire to cause mayhem. Invisible barriers and faded gun-buster signs do nothing to stop criminals and everything to do with disarming those who’s state of armament has no bearing on your safety.

Glad to see that Florida is getting into the spirit, even if they’re doing so kicking and screaming. Watch as Florida’s violent crime rate doesn’t skyrocket.

I was discussing the issue with a friend. He mentioned that a plane was somehow different because of the cramped close quarters.

I then pointed out we had just ridden the train into Boston the day before...

My understanding is that under F.S. 790.06(12) it is already illegal (and still will be) to carry a firearm into an airport, except for a passenger who has a firearm that is already unloaded and encased in a locked container to be checked for shipment as baggage.

This article looks to me like this is yet ANOTHER ill-researched article that is mis-quoting Florida law. What makes it worse is that people will read this and think that, when Lee County updates it's laws to be in line with pre-emption, they will be able to legally CC in an airport (as the article says) when that will still be illegal via F.S. 790.06(12). Personally, I think the paper is doing this purposefully for political reasons! Like "Oh NOES! People with EEK! GUNS at the AIRPORTS!!!". It's even sadder that NRA-ILA is linking the article without warning people that the article is WRONG on Florida law giving credence to what the article says.

Any idea who/where to get ahold of NRA-ILA to set them strait? IANAL, but I am getting an awful lot of rediculous questions from people who know that I pay attention to firearms law, because they read in the paper that -insert felony here- was going to be legal now because of the "new" pre-emption law.

I've heard everything from guns being allowed in bars (nope, still illegal) to being allowed to set up targets and shoot .22s downtown at the park (still illegal too, and dangerous and stupid).

As a side note, I have also had to set more than one a-hole strait when they insisted that we were now allowed to open carry... Why, oh why, do these people have to bother ME? In fairness to the newspapers, I'm not sure where they got that idea.
