More and more Florida ordinances which have been illegal for 25 continue to fall

"There's no point in keeping this on the books because we couldn't enforce it anyhow," Kee told the commission. "This does not keep the city from enforcing state firearm laws."

Good, I’m glad they recognize that. State law, while still a bit overbearing in my opinion, is plenty enough to ‘promote safety’ or whatever the catch phrase is these days. You don’t promote safety by having a patchwork of laws that snag innocent, law abiding gun owners.

Any attempt to enforce such a local law would put a police officer or other city official, including elected officials, subject to a $5,000 personal fine and the city a fine of up to $100,000, plus legal costs, he said. It also gives the governor the authority to remove the employee or public official from office.

Oh, the sweet, sweet taste of those tears from the lawmakers crying over this is so delicious.

Now, one thing I’ve thought about lately is not only is HB45 effective (it’s not even law yet and these people are scrambling to comply) but that it’s a great concept – hold lawmakers and law enforcement officials accountable. Do that, and you’ll see the overbearing state take a step back. However, why should this only pertain to firearms?

He said he was not aware of a similar law penalizing cities, counties and local officials for enacting or enforcing laws beyond state statutes with regard to other public policies.

I agree. Why don’t we do this for ALL laws?

Remember, while I may focus on firearms, my end goal is more freedom for all in all facets of our lives.
