I’m the worst person to ask for advice on this

Out of sight, out of mind

Shelly talks about how to conceal guns. Me? I carry a full sized Glock 20 with no problems. In fact, I found the full sized Glock carried more comfortably than the compact G29.

Then again, I’m 6’3”, two hundred and some pounds and, being a Floridian, tend to wear looser fitting clothing anyway. With my Comp-Tac Minotaur I can even tuck in my shirt with little issue. The only time I’ve been printed, though, was when tucked so it’s not my favorite form.

I’d prefer OC, regardless.

1911 Commander, 6'00" 200+ (and working out to get rid of this gut) and I dress like I slept in a boxcar.

Also living in New England, I usually wear a heavy sweatshirt 7-8 months out of the year.

I'm also in Florida, I'm about the same size as you (a little heavier probably), and have found the same thing. I have no problem carrying just about anything that I want with only a (fairly loose) black t-shirt to cover it (I wear mostly black anyway). I have carried everything I own all the way up to my Rugar bisley 44 Mag. with no problems with printing. I am a little long waisted so I have found that buying my shirts in XXLT instead of just XXL helped a bit, but even when I'm not carrying (rarely happens anymore) the XXLT shirts look better on me anyway since they don't make me look like I'm wearing my little brother's shirt.

I have also found that smaller guns aren't as comfortable. I have a Taurus PT145 that I don't cary very often because it just isn't comfortable. No matter how secure the IWB holster is, it always feels like it's about to fall out. When I do carry it, I use a holster that I designed and built myself and I KNOW that gun ain't going anywhere but it still feels like it is. I have tried various store-bought holsters and had the same problem (they were usually even worse that the one I made). SO, I stick to my full size guns.

My "full size" Walther P99 is a dream to carry. I find my full size 1911 isn't as comfortable, but I'm still working on just the perfect holster for that one (I'm almost there with my last attempt).

Stuart - I have a PT145 I don't carry very often for reasons we won't discuss here. When I do its in a Galco IWB made for a Glock 30 between 3 and 4 o'clock. Expensive, but a good holster.

I usually carry a Kimber full size 1911 (government? I guess) in a Crossbreed Qwik-klip typically with just a plain t-shirt over it. I'm 6'3" and barely 150lbs. There's some debate with my gunnie friends if its because it doesn't print or if people just plain don't notice. Either way, small framed people can carry big framed guns.

Man, I remember being 150lbs, now I'm almost twice that! Although, being 6'3" I have a lot of room to distribute the weight so I don't really look fat. I was 148lbs when I went to USMC boot camp, and 190lbs of pure muscle when I exited boot camp.

I took a quick look online at the Crossbreed Qwik-klip and it looks interesting. Thanks for sharing. I tend to like holsters that keep the gun low on the beltline and most of the holsters I have bought for my 1911 tended to keep the gun high off the belt where it would flop around and get annoying. The Qwik-klip looks like it holds the gun lower. We'll see. I'll either buy one eventually or make one simular to it to experiment with. It looks like it uses kydex and I don't do anything with kydex though so who knows. (please note, I don't sell holsters, I only make them for personal use so I don't think borrowing the idea will hurt anyone).

Mostly because I've seen people totally ignore them. I've heard Tam say a few times that you could OC through a mall with a pink shirt saying you've got a gun and most people wouldn't notice. I have no reason to doubt that.

About 6-7 years ago I'm setting up camp in a remote are with some friends. Another guy rolls up, asks if I brought any guns. Yeah, I sure did. You're talking to me and I got a Glock 21 on my hip. He never saw it.

Not too long after I started carrying on a regular basis my wife and I are in a farm shop, she rubs my side, hand hits the Glock 21, up my side, back into the G21, over and over again. We get in the car and she says something about not knowing when I carry a gun. She didn't even notice it. She had no idea I had a gun on me. SHE TOUCHED IT!

Now I hardly ever carry that Glock 21, even though I've got two stories about it. I'm 5'9" on a good day and tip the scales at 150lbs. It's a bit big for me, but damned if anybody's ever spotted it.

The one time in my life somebody asked if I had a gun under my shirt, due to a buldge, it was actually because I had my Droid on my belt under my shirt.

People just flat out do not notice others carrying guns. It's amazing.

In reviewing my comment I realize that I failed to mention, in the first incident with my buddy and camping, that the Glock 21 was being carried OWB without any cover garment at all.

For my 1911 guvment, Dragon Leatherworks Fugly and a one size up light shirt works just fine.

In an IWB holster from Holsters by Eric, my Walther PPS can disappear pretty much anywhere I want it to.

In my OWB holster from Michael's Custom Holsters / Evyl Robot, my 686 SSR can almost not show under an untucked shirt... so long as I do not bend over or try to twist around too far.

*shrug* I open carry for the most part these days, so it is kind of a non-problem for me :).

Pro-tip for buying holsters. Every gunnie you know has a shoebox full of unused holsters. Ask around and flash cash (never more than $30) and you will have your pick of holsters.

Got my Crossbreed worn-once by two owners for less than half of retail. Apparently the gentleman who bought it new was quite rotund, when he wore that holster it became a retention holster.

My wife has been OC a lot lately, in a Galco Miami Vice shoulder rig.

Recently, she ran into a friend over the weekend while OC (same rig, ISTR it was worn over a Kalashnikitty tank top). The following Monday, she asked if the friend or her companion had noticed the gun during a half hour or so of interaction moving furniture and stuff.

"Uh, you had a gun?"
