My buddy Jeff (Xrlq) was posting on Facepalmbook his interaction with the author of this doozy of a story from the Colorado Springs. Jeff writes

Your editorial at http://www.gazette.com/articles/fires-120225-started-forest.html contains this whopper:
"The vast majority of illegal immigrants are not criminals, but are mistaken as such because of the term “illegal.” Being in this country “illegally” is a civil infraction and nothing approaching a crime. If we trespass on railroad tracks we commit a crime. To reside in the United States illegally is not a crime, which means the political hysteria about “illegals” has no significant basis in law."

Assuming that by "hysteria" you mean "facts I'd rather not be bothered with" and by "has no significant basis in law" you mean "I'm too lazy to check," I agree completely. Otherwise, 8 U.S.C. 1325 leaves little room for doubt that most illegal aliens (read: all who entered the country illegally) are indeed criminals. The only illegals who are not are those who entered the country legitimately, overstayed their visas, and violated no other criminal statutes along the way. Hardly the "vast majority" you claim, if indeed they constitute a majority at all.

There was some banter back and forth and finally the brain-trust ‘journalist’ expels this little nugget of pure, unadulterated genius

‎"Only those convicted of crimes can be considered criminals"

Jeff responds

It's actually worse than that: if no one has been convicted, NO ONE has committed a crime. I'm not sure if that means Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman are still alive today, or if it means they died of natural causes.
