So at megasupercorporationwithareallylongname, the break room has posters for “Care Day”. There’s a little graphic that basically says “When there’s trouble, where can you turn to?” and a quartered circle that has “Friends, Family, Community and Environment” on it.

WTF? Environment??? I mean, usually when I have a bad day I try to go have a conversation with an elm or maybe discuss my feelings with a pond.

I hate this personification of the earth as if it has a soul. It leads to companies that employ over 170,000 people to put up stupid shit like that and believe it. Maybe I’m misreading it, but I can’t see turning to the environment for my troubles. I totally agree with friends, family, and yes, even community (something we no longer seem to be inclined to work for which is sad in my opinion). But the swamp wetland preserve isn’t going to give me advice or assist me in solving any internal issues I have. True, you might be able to relax by looking at a pretty sunset or listening to a babbling brook but that’s not going to solve your issues, and as someone who has made good use of the mental health system we have here (that I paid for myself), I hate the thought of someone being told that being one with the peat moss can help cure you.

Probably reading too much into it, but it causes me to have a WTF moment each time I see it.
