I am not fit to be “ruled.” And if there’s anything left of America, there are millions more out there just like me.

I, too, am not fit to be ruled. Sadly, I live amongst people who are not fit to live their own lives and, due to projection, assume that I am not trustworthy enough to manage my own life. Gun ownership is simply a microcosm of what Jeff is speaking of. Because some people are afraid of the self reliance that comes along with gun ownership, they must being down everyone else to their level to feel better about their failures by demanding we all remain as helpless as they are. Our refusal to do so means they must face the fact that they, and only they, are responsible for their own lives and they are having none of that.

Extrapolate this to the larger picture and it’s the same thing. Like Jeff said in his post, Obama and crew are doing exactly what they have been planning. Destroy the economy so bad that the only way you can survive is to vote for more and more government power so that your ‘slice of the pie’ is protected. It’s insidious and evil but most of all, it’s completely transparent what they’re trying to do. Add into the mix the Republicans who are just as happy to be your rulers and we’ve got a political class that is no longer useless, but dangerous.

The tree of liberty needs some serious watering right now.

The simple miscalculation on the part of those seeking to destroy our economy (and one would have to be especially naive to think that people are simply too stupid and incompetent to achieve the level of destruction that the current administration has achieved purely by accident and only through the best of intentions)is that when the economy collapses, that's it for the Union of States in America. There's nothing that binds us, really. Not culture, not faith, not government (surely), and not even language anymore. When the dollar will no longer buy a gallon of gas (the 21st century loaf of bread) then people's loyalty to the Federal government will dissolve like an Alka-seltzer; with much fury and agitation, but with no real effect.

Like many Americans, I've lost my job due to the Obama recession, although to be fair, this is a federally mandated recession, as no one person can possibly be blamed. They cut off my unemployment, so I started growing my own food, using single ply toilet paper, living without AC, riding my bike in 90 degree weather and in the rain, baking my own bread, raising rabbits for meat and chickens for eggs. I was inclined to do these things anyways, but I didn't, because I was comfortable where I was and those things are hard. Now, I do odd jobs and have been surviving on the non essential things I didn't really need. I still have my computer, but the thing that broke me of the opiate of television was the need to pay my mortgage. Now I'm free, self-reliant, and physically and mentally fit. I have no loyalty to a government which would actively ignore and mock the principals that my nation was founded on. Principals that my fellow Americans believe in.

How do these idiots think they're gonna buy off a self-sufficient populace when the thing they use to try to bribe them is literally worthless? Whether or not they realize it, the central government is putting us onto the road of freedom and liberty. They're paving the way for a bright and glorious future. A future of wealth and prosperity, a future...without them.

I'm with the last two posters. I think you got your metaphor a bit mixed up there. Pruning would be taking away liberties, not promoting them.
