I was explaining why we observe Memorial Day to my daughters. I explained that Daddy never had to go fight in a war even though he was in the Marines. My youngest asked “Why do we have to fight?” and I explained that there was evil in the world and places that want to destroy our freedoms.
Her reply?
“Like California?”
