Why my daughter will probably have many run ins with teachers throughout the years.

Daughter Blogging

The oldest got an assignment to list things that were blue. Not something that can be other colors, so blue shirts and blue cars were out of the questions, but things that are naturally blue. I did manage to get her to put down Copper Sulfate, but the wife wouldn’t let me get her to put down Cherenkov Radiation.

She’s in 2nd grade, mind you. Last year she had to write a sentence using the word ‘toward’. We had her put down ‘Go toward the light, Carol Anne’.

If you ever find yourself out this way, we have got to get our 2nd-grade daughters together. It is comforting to know I'm not the only one who does stuff like this.

I got in trouble at my job, as an investigator, using the word evidentiary.
My boss thought I was trying to impress him.

I think I won't have as many problems. I've already told my daughter's teachers that I've been using range visits as a combination reward/occupational therapy, told them where to find the video of her shooting, and her first grade teacher was enthusing to me about visiting the local indoor range.

Then I'm guessing this is right out:

Copper sulphate isn't blue, it's off white. Copper sulphate pentahydrate is blue, as are nitrous acid, the cesium flame and my feelings when I see mistakes against chemistry.

Michael, for the most part, CuSO4 seems to exist in the pentahydrate form, which is why a generic search for Copper Sulphate usually shows the pretty blue crystals.

I'm sure the hue of Cerenkov Radiation is dependent on the medium too.

A friend of mine pointed out that you should have had her list be one item long:

Electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of 475 nm.

After all, that's the only thing that is really blue.

When I was in second grade, my word was "foil". Mom suggested "Curses, foiled again!" It was the only time any of us ever even heard our sourpuss of a teacher laugh, much less snort.
