The level of misinformation presented was staggering. It’s amazing anything can ever get through with people twisting facts like that.

It looked like a badly scripted comedy. The amount of incorrect information that people take as fact never ceases to amaze me. If people would take a little time to inform themselfs instead of taking fearmongering as fact would go along way for this country.

So how long do you think it will be before actual, real, OC is brought up? You know, the kind that *doesn't* require me to petition the State and attend a class, etc., all at my own expense.

When that bill is introduced, I suspect that you'll have much more support from the voters, including me. And it would help if y'all used titles that accurately described the proposed legislation: nowhere does this thing protect me from arrest/trial if I were to OC, so I'm not pleased that the colloquial term asserts something that's not actually on the table.

Peter, as soon as you can personally write up a bill, work up the relationships with the legislators needed to get sponsors, slog through the committees, get with the media to try to get your message out, and do all the ground work to organize enough voters to pester their representatives on a constant basis that they get the message, and then work with all the representatives and senators to ensure you have enough votes to actually get it pass, you should be good to go.

You have done all that right? Because I've heard you complain about this numerous times, so I assume that you're mad enough to withhold support that you're mad enough to actually do the work necessary to get Constitutional Carry pushed right on through, correct? Because, man... maybe I'm just missing something here but I was pretty sure that permitless carry couldn't even get a sponsor. Maybe you have better contacts that we do, I don't know.

Linoge, plenty of worn out talking points. The quasi-Bradyite (some Violence Shunning Society or some sort) was incoherent and could only offer some anecdote about somebody shooting someone somewhere.

The worst part were the myriad of "I / We fully support the Second Amendment...BUT" such as the Sheriff's Association and the Retail something or other Association. "We SELL the guns and bullets, we just don't want to have to put up signs to keep you out because it'd make us look bad!"

The fight is still on, this is just battle #1 really.

My reading of the "Criminal Justice Committee analysis" from myfloridahouse.gov suggests they have gutted this bill of campus carry... Any reflection on this?

If you look near the end of the pdf text below, it appears they removed the deregulation of places, while preserving the OC elements.

Long story but some guy came in who's daughter was killed at an off campus frat party by an underaged, drunk, stoned kid with a rifle and somehow Campus Carry would have... I don't exactly know how the two related, but the sob story worked and nobody would vote for the bill unless they removed it.

Sucks, but we can still fight that fight next time around.

When did I mention Constitutional Carry? That's another discussion for another time, one that if the current trend continues (that of other states enacting it), will fix itself.

My point is, and has been, instead of modifying (and thereby endorsing) the Reno Amendment to further protect CCW holders, why wasn't there an effort to remove it altogether? It's not as though there would have been any less PSH than what's going on now, and would benefit a larger group of citizens. The opposition will make the same 'piles of dead children' argument regardless. It's what they do, since they haven't any of those pesky facts to employ.

I made the assumption that you're against licensing (which I am as well) completely.

If that's not the case, then honestly I'm at a loss as to your objection and need to understand it better.

My objection is that SB234 does nothing to address the fact that in order to both move about in public and stay within the law I have to be disarmed.

That the bill in question will prevent the police from their traditional practice of stealing from CC licensees if their sidearm becomes visible is a good thing, but doesn't go nearly far enough.

All I'm asking is that if I have to go visit the Wal-Martians at 2AM I don't have to be on guard against the Good Guys in addition to the bad ones.

It works even in Wal Mart at 0200.

Unless you are a felon there's nothing but you keeping you from being legal while you carry concealed. Soon, hopefully, that will be true of openly carrying and accidentally showing while carrying.

I can and do go armed pretty much anywhere I want here in Florida. Yes, there are a few off limit places and yes, we have certain municipalities that have decided they don't want to honor the state's preemption laws (which, by the way, we're working on fixing with HB45), but the statement that you must be disarmed is absolutely false.

I agree with the comment you left over at Sebastian's. Getting permission is repugnant, but that's the system we have right now. As I have said earlier, but perhaps not as clearly, removing all licensing is a worthy goal, but not one that is possible right now. Removing the 'gotcha' provision in the CCW law is a good thing to accomplish, but it still leaves me with the obligation of having to petition the state and pay money and spend time in a class in order for me to walk around armed legally. As a compromise, I'm willing to accept the restriction of only using OC in order to not having to submit to begging for a permission slip in order to carry.

Got that? Either I apply for the permit, or I go without. That's the reality. It applies here in Palm Beach County as it does up in House Of Mouse County where you live.

I don't want to walk around with a firearm every day; I don't need to around here as there's a refreshing lack of blue-haired homicidal maniacs lurking at the Senior Center. However, when I need to go somewhere that is known to have problems, I want to be able to both arm myself and avoid being arrested by the police for not having a permit.

SB234 does not do this, in fact it doesn't address this at all, and that's my problem with it.

The process in states that have recently adopted no-permit carry have not worked that way. They've gone from no carry, to shall-issue, to constitutional.
