I sent out emails regarding HB 45, the bill to give preemption teeth here in the Sunshine State.
Representative Trujillo sent me this in reply
Thank you for email concerning HB 45. I have just voted in support of the bill. As a proud gun owner and ardent supporter of the Second Amendment, I believe we need uniformity concerning our State gun laws. Local municipalities do not have the right to curtail our rights as gun owners. Thank You, Carlos Trujillo
I like a nice, concise “Yes or No” answer, and Representative Trujillo’s email is greatly appreciated. AND he’s Miami Dade!
Now, for SB 234, the senate version, I got this response from Senator Charles Dean
Robb- Thank you for voicing your support of Senator Negron’s Senate Bill 402. As a lifelong member of National Rifle Association, I understand these issues firsthand. Senate Bill 402 would help protect the rights of gun owners by providing penalties for government officials who violate state gun preemption law. On Tuesday, Senate Bill 402 was found favorably by the Criminal Justice Committee, a committee I serve on. I put three amendments onto Senate Bill 402 to strengthen the bill for law abiding gun owners. When voting upon this issue, I will keep your support in mind. You can follow Senate Bill 402 by logging on to www.flsenate.gov. Once again, thank you for writing to me and please continue to write to me on issues important to you. -Charlie

Thanks for… umm… is that support or not? I mean, I hope you do more than just sit there during the vote and go “I remember that nice Robb fellow sent me an email about this”. I’d like to know if you plan on voting Yes or No. Why is it that so many politicians feel the need to not make any decisions public until it’s too late?
Folks, keep on your congress-critters about these bills. I’ve received a total of TWO responses to my emails, so it’s time to start making phone calls to find where they stand.
Thank you for voicing your support of Senator Evers’ Senate Bill 234. As a lifelong member of the NRA and a former Sheriff, I know firsthand how important the issues are surrounding our second amendment rights. Senate Bill 234 would allow people in compliance with the concealed carry license to carry a concealed weapon into more areas than originally allowed. Senate Bill 234 is scheduled to be heard in the Criminal Justice Committee, a committee I serve on, on February 22, 2011. When Senate Bill 234 is brought before me, I will remember your e-mail. You can follow Senate Bill 234 by logging on to www.flsenate.gov. Please continue to write to me on issues important to you or whenever I may be of any assistance. -Charlie
