It’s almost a cliché in the gunnie circles that “The Second protects the First”. I’m a firm believer in the saying because there’s a lot of truth to it. Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp once said
How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of.
Unfortunately, I think this goes well beyond politicians. Pretty much any time there’s a discussion on guns, those who are against it do so on the claim that they don’t trust other people to no just ‘snap’ at any time. That is what is all boils down to – you are not a trustworthy adult capable of making your own decisions and thus need the guiding hand of your superiors to make the choices for you, whether it be what to eat, how to defend yourself, or going to the right doctor for the right reasons.
“The Second protects the First” is a bit of an understatement in this regard. All our rights go hand in hand and those who do not support one of them are bound to not support any of them
To whit – Sebastian has discovered that the International Association of PSH of Chiefs of Police is all about regulating the Internet just like they’re all about regulating your ability to protect yourself with the best tools possible. And speaking of tools, the GOP is right along side of them calling for the police state.
Oh, there will be Gun Control coming up soon, and the GOP will be the ones slitting their own throats to bring it to you. From what I’ve seen, it’s a dead issue but to understand that would require both enough brain cells to form an intelligent thought and a spine to hold your head up while you follow through – two things the GOP is lacking in spades.
Rights go hand in hand. You don’t support one because you find it icky, don’t expect people to support the ones you are comfortable with.
