I just got a search hit from Phoenix Life Insurance, looking for someone with my exact name.

Are insurance policy writers now scanning the web to find out more about potential clients and their life choices, or was it someone with my name who works there doing a vanity search?

Interesting to think about. I know plenty of people who try to remain anonymous on the web for similar scenarios, most of them revolve around not wanting to have issues at their current or future places of employment. Me? I gave up any chance at anonymity back in ‘96 when I registered robballen.com.

Just remember though – you’re not as anonymous as you think.
