Ruger revolutionizes the gun industry again

At 2:00, Ruger plans on announcing their newest line of KelTec Clones. But what makes this revolutionary is not the pistol, but their patented “Precall” system.

5 minutes before the official release, Ruger will be recalling the LC9, signaling an unprecedented commitment to customer support.

I for one am amazed!

I generally like Ruger's firearms, but I was pretty underwhelmed with today's announcement.

I really don't see any reason to jump from .380 to 9mm. Make a pocket auto in .45ACP or bigger and I'll be impressed. :D

I note it is heavier than my .38spl, S&W snubbie. My M442 weighs around 13oz compared to the LC9's 17.1oz.

I think I'll keep my snubbie. I've fired the Kel-Pec and I was not impressed.

I carried a very similar (although probably less reliable) gun, the Sccy CPX-1, for a year or so. Aside from being slightly heavier, it was just a concealable as my P3AT, and it 10+1 rounds of 9mm in a more controllable package then the little Kel-Tec were/are little more comforting to have with me than the 7+1 rounds of .380 in a P3AT.

Since I can't carry here anyhow, unless it's open-carry/unloaded, it's diminutive size does me no good.
For Open-Carry don't you need to dress to impress? Hey look, I have a very small and thin penis!

Reliability. It's had to go back to Sccy three times now, all for the same issue: A cracked frame. This usually seemed to happen after high round-count practice sessions: If I popped off a mag and then put it away, it's fine. Drop a hundred or more rounds thru it at once and bad things happen.

The service at Sccy/Skyy was great and every time I sent it out it came back with two extra mags, but still, I'd rather have a gun that has a great warranty and never needs it. I still have the Sccy, but now it's relegated to in-car defensive use and not something I carry.

The LC9 is more comparable to the KelTec PF-9 than the diminutive P3-AT. The PF-9 is still smaller. Ruger has the same mag cap.

I have a PF9, I carry a PF9. Senator, a PF9 is not a reliable handgun.

Well, at least they're vocal about their recalls.

S&W sells guns that fire when you engage the safety (far worse than a minor drop safe issue). And quietly recalls them.

Sig, they don't do recalls. Just "mandatory upgrades".

I think we need to quit bashing Ruger over it's recalls. Especially if we're not going to bash other brands that have had far more serious recalls - just aren't as vocal.

Unless you're all advocating that with the next recall. Ruger should do it quietly, make few announcements. And tuck a little link on the bottom of it's site.

Oh wait...can't even find that on S&W's site...
