Cops are complaining the .40 S&W is too wimpy and need something with a bit more oomph. What really happened is some cop shot a 10mm and decided the entire department should have that kind of awesome on their belts.
As a side note (before I get pdb in here showing me pictures of jello with holes in it), I am well aware that it’s a handgun round and woefully underpowered for dispatching goblins effectively. My view is you carry the most gun you can shoot accurately, has enough capacity, afford to feed so you can practice, and will carry rather than leave at home because it’s too big.
I like my Glock 20 because I have 15+1 rounds of 10mm. To get that kind of firepower in a 1911 frame would run up a bill I couldn’t pay for by selling both my kidneys, a lung, and a cornea or two. However, I reload (and am not afraid to carry my handloads since I practice with them and know their performance better than anything I could purchase) and that makes it just cheap enough to use. If you’re not a reloader, the cost of 10mm is kind of stupid and may not be the best choice.
So, the experts which deal with hundreds of thousands of kills every year think energy matters...
