Do we want our streets to be places where bullets fly indiscriminately?
With ammo costs the way they are these days? Heck no!
Do we want criminals, domestic abusers, dangerously mentally ill people and terrorist to have guns?
Your side does. My side wants people who are dangerous to stay behind bars rather than let them walk amongst the rest of us hoping that a cash register stops them from picking up a tool. And which specific terrorist are you referring to?
Do we want women to be shot to death by domestic partners?
Of course not! We should take away guns so that the woman is instead beaten, raped, and then strangled to death by a physically stronger opponent to which she has no chance at defending herself against since guns are icky!
Do we want gang members on the streets with guns shooting at each other and innocent victims?
Each other? Sure. Saves me a lot of tax money. But again, it’d be better if they were in jail where they wouldn’t be able to harm innocents to begin with.
Do we want criminals stealing guns from homes and gun dealers?
If they were locked away, again the problem simply disappears. Crazy how simple that solution is versus some convoluted background check that has a less than 2% success rate, isn’t it?
Do we want guns to be the cause of the largest number of suicides?
Does it matter what the method of suicide is? I assume Joanne couldn’t care less if someone offs themselves by jumping off a bridge or slicing their wrists. Guns are used in suicides because they are effective, not because someone was in a great mood after getting a promotion, came home and thought “Huh, I have a gun, I should kill myself”. Japan has a higher suicide rate than the US (as do 39 other countries) and yet they have strict gun control.
Do we want kids shooting each other or themselves accidentally?
The Brady Campaign does. For starters. tragedy is all the Brady Campaign can make donations off of and because of that, the Brady Campaign actively fights against the Eddie Eagle program or against any safety lessons taught to kids regarding gun safety.
Do we want people openly carrying guns in public places when we have managed pretty well without for many years?
I would like to take a moment out of my fisking to remind the people who were bitching about Open Carry in my recent post that you and japete are saying the same thing. Just so you know.
And Joanne, you do realize that 43 states allow open carry, don’t you? Millions of people carry concealed weaponry and hundreds of thousands of people openly carry just fine.
And criminals? They’ve been toting guns around in defiance of the law since gun laws were first enacted. They’re the problem, not guns, not tools, not licensing, not gun shows, nada. But that requires a bit more complex thinking than “GUNZ AR BAD!” Thinking about things in terms of reality is just common sense, you know!
