I know it is difficult for some to believe that gun shows can be the source of illegal activity.

Wasn’t it Joanne Peterson saying that selling guns to felons is perfectly legal at gun shows? I’ve seen raw sewage with more consistency than her.

Personally, I think a wholehearted dedication to logical inconsistencies is pretty much mandatory for being an anti-rights nut... it is about the only way they can say some of the things they do without suffering an aneurism of some sort.

Regardless, Japete is pretty much the gift that keeps on giving... to us. One almost has to feel sorry for the bigwigs on the anti-rights side of the house, having to tolerate her being on their side...

When I pointed out to her that Wintemute's most recent studies make very clear that unlicensed sellers at gun shows are not a significant contributor to access to guns by criminals, she dismissed that information as "innuendo".

She's happy to quote him when he says something that supports her position, but quickly dismisses him when his results are inconvenient to her.

Which is about as surprising as the fact that the sun came up this morning.

There's really nothing inconsistent about her position. You can take quotes out of context to prove there is, and then Linoge can pipe up with his bullshit, but you know very well what her position is.

Selling guns without background checks, which is allowed in certain places, is a problem. That's the point you should be addressing, not all that nonsense about her consistency.

The reason this is a problem is because criminals and mentally ill people can buy guns that way. Do you support that, really? I can't understand how lawful gun owners can, unless, I know, you're afraid some day you'll find yourself in one of those categories. Is that it?

Sorry lad, japete claimed that selling guns to felons was legal at gun shows, period. Oh, sure, once she was caught, she edited her post like a good Brady Campaign member (lies and distortions are their stock in trade), but that is what she claimed originally.

The problem is that microencephalic persons such as yourself and japaete still believe that a cash register is all that's needed to stop criminals from plying their trade. I, on the other hand, believe that if you are too dangerous to society to purchase tools, then why are you walking the street to begin with?

As for fear of being one of those people, you betcha. Thanks to the efforts of both the right and the left, the average American commits 3 felonies a day. If I were to offer your a cat pelt here in Florida, even if I didn't have the pelt, I would be a felon. If you were to take a Red Bull into a psychiatric hospital, you would be a felon.

So, no. Free men and women should be allowed to purchase whatever weaponry they desire at any time. If you have a problem with dangerous people getting guns, then you need to pressure your politicians to keep violent criminals in jail rather than letting them walk the street where they can harm others.

But that's not your goal, is it?

Mikeb, its a "problem" of statistically insignificant proportions with respect to legal sales. Which would indicate to any reasonable person that adding restrictions to the conduct of law-abiding persons would be a waste of time and money as well as futile.

But that does not describe gun control advocates.

At that very post, Japete initially said something along the lines of, "In 37 states, there are not laws against selling firearms to felons, so people can and do at gun shows, and there is nothing to stop them." Robb pointed that out to me, and I left a (still unpublished) comment at the post indicating that federal law prohibited people selling firearms to felons, prohibited felons from purchasing firearms, and prohibited felons from owning firearms.

Strangely enough, very shortly after I left that comment, the entire tone of her post changed - she edited it to cover her ass. I wish I had kept screenshots of the original.

She initially said that selling firearms to felons was 100% legal in some number of states. She now says that doing so is illegal in all states.

That is inconsistent, and no amount of your namecalling will change that.

You are right. It is a problem that only certain states allow law-abiding citizens to engage in commerce and exchange good for money.

Felons are prohibited from purchasing firearms. Felons are prohibited from owning firearms. And yet they still do. Why is that? Because they are criminals. Do you honestly believe that imposing a law mandating background checks for all firearm transfers will stop a person who has no regard for the law in the first place?

The "problem" is lame-brained anti-rights jerks like you and this cannot-keep-her-story-straight Board Member, who are so gorramed obsessed with making my life as difficult and complicated (and potentially law-breaking) as possible, while ignoring the cold reality that criminals are going to do as they damned well please, regardless, or perhaps because of, whatever laws you decide to impose on the rest of us.

Robb got it in one - if your goal was really reducing crime in general and ensuring the safety of the average American citizen, you would be focusing your efforts on proven methods that do just that. Instead, you are obsessing over ideas that have not worked elsewhere (need I point out once-Great Britain's current crime and firearm-related crime rates?). Again with the inconsistencies... So, really, take your casual, baseless aspersions, write them down, fold that piece of paper until it is all sharp corners, and shove it up your...

Of course, this all ignores the simple fact that only 2% or less of firearms used in crimes come from gun shows.

Well, congratulations, Robb, for finally attracting the ire of Sparky, there... But, as you can see, the quality of his trollings has really diminished over the years. I guess being wrong as much as he is, and having to hold to such irrational positions as he does, tends to wear on a person...
