How about hunting for a good bargain?

One of the grey areas of Open Carry here in Florida comes from 790.25 section 3h

(h) A person engaged in fishing, camping, or lawful hunting or going to or returning from a fishing, camping, or lawful hunting expedition;

There's a group of people who apparently set up OC fishing events. I need to find out more about that. I hate fishing, but I'm willing to walk around with some lures and a rod for a while!

This seems clearly defined to me. I (Florida resident) openly carry my firearm the entire way to/from and during all of my camping and fishing (I do not hunt) and have never had any trouble (law enforcement or otherwise) during this.

Likewise with recognition of subsection 3(j) 3(k) & 3(n) [The only ones applicable to myself other than potentially 3(m)].

It's interesting that the "lawful" requirement only applies to the hunting exception, and not to the fishing or camping exceptions.

And in the South, don't y'all fish with your bare hands? Noodling for catfish. Voila! Instant permanent excuse -- "but officer, I'm on my way to go noodling, so I'm allowed to OC and no I don't need any equipment except my hands."

Hm. So if one were to simply keep a fishing rod and a box of tackle in the back seat...? And how far is one permitted to deviate from "going to or returning from"? Does one have to go directly from point A to point B?

And, yeah, I would have a lawyer on speed-dial if I were of the probing sort... or just move to TN ;).

I think if you're walking around with your rod in your hand you can get arrested for felonies other than open carrying.

Can not your Bug Out Bag with its 3-5 days worth of Camping supplies that should be in every car count towards "going to or coming from "a camping expedition"?

In Hawaii you can camp on the beach as long there are no signs posted against camping, anywhere, as long as you want, if you have a fishing pole and a line near the water.

Considering the venue, it's understandable to get your rods confused.

Sometimes they just write themselves.
