When people start admiring things and people from NJ, you have just entered the fourth dimension.

pdb: We in NJ are still waiting to see what his stance on the gun issue is. He supported the NJ AWB in the 90s. He doesn't support CCW in NJ. Right now I understand he has bigger fish to fry, so the gun issue has been collecting dust, and no gun control bills have been moving. It's just his AG, Paula Dow, that we in NJ need to be concerned with.

I don't live in New Jersey, but here's my perspective from inside Connecticut:

* Public school employees continued voting for the same 'D' incumbents that were robbing their pension fund

* Public school employees largely did not understand the nature of economic problems

* During the first budget hearing where cuts were mandated, teachers did their part to show up after hours, but some sat and giggled in the audience in full view of a packed house of angry taxpayers

* Teachers initially would not make any concessions--huffing and puffing that they were owed for concessions back in some previous century B.C., having received 6% pay raises since--apparently misunderstanding that taxpayers who lose their homes attempting to meet their property tax obligations do not continue to pay property taxes

* The unnecessary budget increase caused some of them to be fired--as well as classroom aids--and eliminating needed supplies, building maintenance and utilities

* Their jobs suddenly became harder, and townspeople much more difficult to deal with

* They still don't get it

Unlike some folks, I understand that teaching is a difficult job, but I will never again accept a lecture on "economic justice" and "fairness" from a group of people who tossed their coworkers under the bus, let student courses be eliminated and watched while taxpayers were evicted from their homes or prosecuted by tax collectors, just so they wouldn't have to personally endure some minor reduction in creature comforts.

Also: A failing business becomes a failed business. What happens to a "failing school"?

Your country does need more men with a decent pair of balls 'n brains and no reservations of speaking their mind.

Come to think about it ... a lot of countries could do with some of those.
