Dear other bloggers – I don't read your tweets

I hate Twitter with a passion. I have an account, tried it for a bit, realized character limits suck, and promptly left it in the dust. I realize some people cannot live without Twitter and others believe it is a great communication tool. Fine, I love freedom and that choices that come with it.

If you have a blog, however, why in the hell do you post your Twitter tweets???? I mean, if I want to read your tweets, I'll follow you. If I'm not following your tweets because 256 or less characters require you to talk like a teeny bopper sending text messages and it annoys the shit out of me, what makes you think having it on your blog is any less annoying?

There are a few people who have mastered the art of tweeting. (one of them compiles a day's worth into a single blog post which is actually quite readable)

That being said, I generally see twitter as a social medium giving voice to those who have nothing to say.

They're welcome to tweet, I'm welcome to do other things.

Ever 100 days or so, something will make me think "ZOMG, I haven't tweeted in a long time!!!1!one!"

And so I do, and it reminds me why I never use Twitter.

Of course, my blog posts are approaching Kevin Baker's in length, so Twitter is a (ahem) sub-optimal medium for me.

You mean like displaying your tweets on the sidebar of your blog? I'd say it was an advertisement that tries to convince you to follow someone on twitter

I read twitter all the time. And when I'm not at a computer, I find it handy to read some of the blogs that do post to twitter, via my phone, as opposed to going through all my RSS feeds.

And quite often, I wanted to show something that I didn't feel should be a "post" on the blog but I'll tweet it.

It's just another mechanism. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Some people don't do RSS feeds or go to websites to check-in but read my blog through twitter, so I automatically post to twitter when I do a blog post.

Some people prefer to read the paper while some prefer to watch the evening news....

Patrick, what if you hated the newspaper, but loved the evening news and one day you turned on the tube and the news anchor was reading from the newspaper instead?

I am 100% on board with people getting their info however they want. I'm an RSS junkie and pretty much get updates every 5 minutes (or less). Some people prefer simply visiting a list of links in their bookmarks. Some memorize which blogs they like to read. It just seems odd that if someone doesn't want a particular method to force them into it anyway.

Maybe I don't get the extent of your gripe. You can read my blog, my RSS feed or catch it on twitter, or even Facebook if you are a friend. I don't force anyone to read it in a certain method and give as many options as I can.

Personally, I'm annoyed by those who don't have a mechanism that I am able to pick up a mobile version when I'm not sitting in Google Reader, but that's just me.

Hell, sometimes I'm watching TV and want to catch up on some feeds so I use my phone via twitter > html (hopefully mobile).

No, I wouldn't do that because that just seems stupid. If that is what you are referring to, then I completely agree.

I just see Twitter as another avenue to get "me" out there, I don't push anybody there. That to me isn't a blog.

I was a little confused about what you meant at first to.

I do the exact opposite of what you're railing about here.

I don't blog about by twitter posts, I use twitterfeed to tweet about my blog posts.

I actually get a little traffic from that on occasion.

I also have my blog linked to facebook so my blog posts go up as "notes" on facebook for the people who are addicted to...er...prefer...that.

Ok, I don't post my tweeter tweets. Nor do I tweet my blog posts. Well ok, I did this morning, but not automatically like some do.

Now my tweets do appear on my blog page, but it's just a sidebar app.

And I do post my tweets automatically to FaceBook, but that's so I don't have to post the same thing in two places.
