Seconds Matter
I am writing my PhD dissertation on Michigan gun-rights from the perspective of gun owners, activists, training instructors, CPL holders and open carriers. I grew up in the Midwest, but I go to school in California. I bought my first (and only) firearm in California about four years ago. Needless to say, I've learned very quickly that Michigan gun-rights politics are very different. Since few scholars have written about grassroots gun-rights organizing, this project tackles the political, historical, and personal aspects of gun-rights in Michigan. I hope my study will address dismissive assumptions regarding gun-owners - for example, that they 'cling to their guns' out of confused desperation - by showing that gun-rights is an extremely complex form of politics that highlights the importance of responsible citizenship.
AWESOME! Going in my RSS reader and the blogroll right now.
