We win! I think we've won big too. There's also mention that how other nations handle things is irrelevant to how the US does things. I expect that to be cited in other cases.

Just between us Floridians, what do you think is the possibility of restoring open carry here?

I know we're in a shall-issue state, and that's likely to withstand any sort of challenge, but that also means that one is obliged to petition the state to exercise the RKBA.

What are your thoughts here?

Peter, I would love to see it pushed here. Unfortunately, we'd have push back from people ostensibly on our side as there are some 'pro gun' people who are so anti-Open carry that they'd be just as much a thorn in our side as the anti's would be.

Not being a lawyer, I can't say what the chances are. I looked into starting up a Florida Open Carry movement a while back, but the... backlash from our side put me off the idea.

What were the objections to open carry from the pro-gun guys here in Fla? Are they afraid of stampeding the sheeple tourists? Heck, hand out a flyer at OIA to every incoming passenger telling them that everywhere they see a gun on a hip that they are more secure from predators than where they DON'T see one.....

It was more that there weren't a lot of OC guys here and when I went looking for external help, I got a lot of "OC is bad and we'll lose what we've gained if you push it" vibes from people I talked to.

This all was before Heller and McDonald though, so we didn't have those things under our belts which may make many of those feelings moot.

I get the impression from a lot of gunnies that there is a fear of losing ground if we challenge anything that might upset some people. To some, anything that cannot be considered mainstream, there is nothing to be gained from demanding our rights be respected. For the Fudds, anything besides single shot, bolt action hunting rifles with burled walnut stocks are 'not mainstream'. For others, Open Carry is too in your face.

Maybe these days, it's not as bad as it was a few years ago. I just got a real bad taste right off the bat trying to see what kind of support was available for OC here in the Sunshine state. Maybe it's time to revisit that issue, no?
