Venturing into the annals of Chuck Norris Level Awesomeness, some company has gone and produced a handheld, blue laser that operates at a full watt. Now, you may be saying to yourself "Only a watt? So what?" but then you'd be forgetting that's twenty times the power of the previous, most powerful hand held unit. 1 watt is so powerful it can ignite human skin pretty much on contact.
So, what do you get when you announce a powerful laser at only $200? That's right! Full on Type 7 Brady style PSH. Read the comments. There's no need to have something like this. There will be thousands of blind people from some idiot standing on an overpass pointing it at drivers. We're too stupid to have something like this available at such a good price.

I totally agree this is not a device that should be available so easily, whatever freedom freaks are barking about.
Freedom freaks? I guess people who think cheap Internet access and blogs are a good thing are First Amendment Freaks. People who think blacks, gays, Jews, and wheelchair bound, left handed, blind dentists without their tonsils should all be treated equally are Civil Rights Freaks.
The simpering coward then goes on in the comments to extol the need for government intervention to protect ourselves and cannot fathom why anyone wouldn't want to give up their freedoms for just a smidgen of safety. If I cannot be trusted to take care of myself, how can I be trusted to take care of others? Government is made up of people who were elected based on how popular they are, not because of some IQ test that proves they are worthy of keeping us all safe from ourselves. And yet, little children like this commenter are more than happy to give up their freedoms (and by extension yours) to some random, faceless bureaucrat because something they read in a Tom Clancy novel might come true!!!
There's also the "ZOMG!!! Terrorists can get this!!!!" midset that assumes the lasers somehow were never really within the financial reach of terrorists to begin with.
