For the billionth time, firearms are simple items to make. Banning them does no good when they can be made with common, farm items

BEIJING (Reuters) – A Chinese farmer has declared war on property developers who want his land, building a cannon out of a wheelbarrow and pipes and firing rockets at would-be eviction teams, state media said on Tuesday.

The most common argument for banning firearms is that criminals will no longer have easy access to them and thus, deprived of a weapon they will instead turn toward a life of charity and goodwill. This mistake in thinking arises from both the misconception that firearms are difficult to produce and a case of lethal stupidity.

It doesn't take a PhD in chemistry to make drugs, and the prohibition against them has done nothing to spread their use. Likewise, banning guns only pushes their manufacture underground where no degree in metallurgy is required, OSHA rules are not followed, and tracking down the origins becomes impossible.

If a Chinese farmer can create a cannon out of a wheelbarrow and pipes and illiterate goat herders can make pistols and rifles with their bare hands and rudimentary tools, what makes you think you can ever remove them from the hands of determined criminals?
