Coding while on cold medicine is a bad idea. You'd think I'd have gotten that into my thick skull at some point, but nooooooo.

Thank heaven for TODO: comments or I'd have all sorts of whacky errors popping up on the production code.

I read once where studying while on caffeine, alcohol, or other drugs would cause you to only clearly remember what you were studying when you were back in that physical state. I doubt you want to get back on the cold medicine to try to understand your code, that seems like a recipe for a vicious circle.

I always bought into the Darwin Theory of Studying.

When you study, you exercise your brain cells. The best thing to do then is to immediately head out to a bar and get hammered. Since alcohol kills brain cells, natural selection indicates that the cells that were used to study will remain while those cells that didn't do shit are wiped away.

I had a 4.0 during my time in college, so I can attest to the benefit of this methodology

I can't find it at the moment, but I remember reading a study on IQ and alcohol that backs up your idea of killing off all the "weak" brain cells. As with most studys, it's probably best taken with a grain of salt, but it sure gave me an excuse to drink more at a time when I was looking for such an excuse.
