Well then, I should start a petition to get Florida to follow suit
This headline says it all Illegal immigrants plan to leave over Ariz. law While I disagree with the implementation, I totally agree with the intent of this law. I'd love nothing more than to have unlimited immigration to the US, but reality has time and time again shown this to not be a good idea. The current system is busted, agreed, and it needs to be changed so that anyone seeking a better life can come here. Spend a few years here, learn the language, show you are willing to meld into our...

Out of all the people who are disappointed with Obama
The Brady's are my favorite. Poor Josh, Paul, Petey, and that guy who forgets "The People". Like so many other groups, they were used by Teleprompter Jesus and thrown aside when they were no longer needed. Just gives me the warm fuzzies.

They didn't have this technology when I was in the Marines
I used to work on Cobra helicopters and we required that the blades rotate in order to fly. Apparently these days they've gotten away from that requirement.

Compensation
You know, it's said on a regular basis that people who carry firearms to places like Starbucks, playgrounds, etc. must be compensating for a small penis. This clearly indicates that those who don't carry guns have a larger phallus and therefore are better suited to stopping crime with it. How does that work? Does the guy demanding your wallet simply drop his knife and run like hell when you whip out your 9" dong or do you have to use it as a bludgeoning device to get your point...

Snark of the day
Speaking of cars as weapons, Tam and commenter aczarnowski about the PSH from people discussing allowing patrons to both enter bars AND possibly have a drink while armed aczarnowski "So I can visit a bar and somehow make reasonable decisions about a 2000 lb projectile (my car) but I can't possibly make reasonable decisions about 147 grain projectiles." 19,600,000 grains at 80.666 fps = a Power Factor of... a little over 1.5 million. That'll make major... Don't tell Caleb....

Quote of the day
Like Kevin Baker, I'm probably going to have a lot of these from John Gatto Forced training was for slaves. Among free men, learning was self-discipline, not the gift of experts. I cannot explain why that is so profound to me. I know for a fact that if I want to learn something, I do. Quickly. Easily. I equate forced Health Control Care to be the realm of slaves too.

With both guns and minds, the key word is 'control'
Kevin Baker has repeatedly pointed to examples in John Taylor Gatto's book The Underground History of American Education, which you can read in its entirety here. Unix-Jedi brought up some passages from it to me recently in conversation, and like a moth to the flame, I've been compelled to go through this book. Like I have the time to do this. Or the blood pressure to spare. Sigh. It's a frightening book, and so far worth the sickening pit in my stomach. However, that's all about the...

Great, all I need now is a politician
Being that I have half of the enemies to a gun. My Para 1911 has rust on it. Mostly inside the magwell where the paint has worn off. The finish on the rest of the pistol is starting to wear in places, and the thing on the back that is designed to rip off large chunks of your palm while racking the slide (and can ostensibly serve as the 'rear sight' from time to time) has also gotten a little rust on it as well. Dangit. I gotta burn through 150 rounds or so of .45 ACP since it's a bit on the...

They start the brainwashing early
I can't afford to send both my kids to private school. I could afford one, but not both, and I'm desperately trying to figure out some way to swing it. Because my oldest is in public school (the youngest will start next year), I pay close attention to what she's learning. At this point, it's primarily the basics - reading, math, etc. She's in gifted so they really work hard with her on those types of things. But yesterday, as usual, I asked her how her day went and what she learned. Guess what...

Making Glock triggers suck less
Say Uncle has been published in Shooting Illustrated. I'm too much of a man to try to make the trigger better. Real men have a 143 lb. trigger pull that's gritty, catches several times on the way and has little pokey things that dig into your fingertip.

Apparently my muse hasn't returned from vacation
Spent some time in Disney over the weekend. Eating a full rack of ribs at 9:00 PM unfortunately did not sit well with me and I spent the entire Saturday feeling hungover although I had had nary a drop of booze the night before. I did have nausea, headache, and a severe sense of vertigo. Which made The Magic Kingdom somewhat less magical than one would hope. My kids had a great time, so that's what was worth it all. Even if you add in the criminals
This post is for Ubu52, who in my last post commented One thing about the gun owner community is that we tend to be more law abiding and more level headed than the general populace. Well, not if you include all of those criminals with guns. (They are also gun owners too, you know.) "People who own guns" would be a subset of the "general population," and if you only look at "People who own guns" and believe a higher percentage of them are "law abiding...

Poor widdle Bwady Campaign
There doesn't seem to be any restaurants that advertise a 10% discount if you go there disarmed. Unlike our side, where there are BBQ joints that give a discount for open carry. I wonder something. Here in Florida, OC is verboten. But on private property, I don't see why it would be. I wonder if a restaurant could do the same thing and not fall afoul of the law.

A MagPul Angled Forward Grip (AFG), that is. I went ahead and picked one up this weekend as the rails are pretty rough on the hands and I have a dislike of vertical grips. Figured for $35 you can't really go wrong. Interestingly, they had a rifle at the store that had one installed on it and my first impression was that I wasn't going to like it. Parts is parts
Tam has lovingly decided to play devil's advocate in my rant about illegal chunks of metal. The general consensus from the infringers (JUST KIDDING) is that some part of the system must be considered the firearm in order to have any laws that are effective. Laying aside my feeling about firearms laws, this is why I disagree with that sentiment To define a gun based on a single part makes as much sense as defining an egg as a cake. Eggs are an integral part of cake. Oh sure, there are...

Such anger over a small chunk of metal
So, I saw this auction for a few Class III lowers. Most had only one bid at around $21. As always, if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Turns out, they're post '86, which means I am not allowed to own one. Think about it. This is just the lower, serialized and stamped in a way that makes it a 'machine gun'. Doesn't matter if you put a bolt action 50 BMG upper on it, it's considered a machine gun. And because that particular piece of aluminum was put into the registry after...

Is that a card you are willing to deal?
JayG brings up, in my opinion, the biggest question you have to ask yourself if you own firearms for personal protection. Are you willing to take the life of another human being in defense of your family, yourself, and your property? Squeezing that trigger will result in someone losing all of their tomorrows. Now, that someone may very well be coming through the window with duct tape and a butcher's knife in hand with the sole purpose of killing you and your entire family - but the...

After acknowledging the recently passed health-care bill limits the agency’s options for enforcing the individual mandate, Shulman told reporters that the most likely way to penalize individuals that don’t comply is by reducing or confiscating their tax refunds. Civil disobedience is required...

Range bag tips
One of the things that I failed to put in my range bags was bug spray. I normally shoot indoors and my complete lack of planning now has me covered in around 200 bug bites that each itch like hell. To say I'm currently in agony would be putting it mildly. Being that the bites cover around 60% of my legs and arms, I can't use the topical Benadryl. I tried, and I ended up knocking myself out (but kept waking up to scratch). So, Off goes in the range bag. Period.

First outing with the new upper
Just a quick video of my first shots with the new Bison Armory upper Worked like a champ. While the sights were not zeroed properly, the rounds went exactly into the same place when I picked the same point of aim. At some point I'm going to try to get a good zero on the sights, maybe try to find a laser bore sight. But it was still dead accurate at 100 yards. I need to pick up a MagPul Angled Fore Grip at some point as I think due to what's most comfortable for me, that would help. The...

OK, now that I have a few minutes I can talk a bit more about my new upper from Bison Armory It's an 18" model (already had a 16") in 6.8 SPC. The receiver is from Tactical Machining and the hand guard is the T9 from Midwest Industries. Flash hider is a VC301 from Vltor. Flip-Up sights are both Yankee Hill and are very, very nice. Last and not least is the dead sexy chrome bolt carrier from Young Manufacturing. I LOVE the way it looks. It's absolutely stunning. ...
