Because so many in the anti-rights camp can't seem to grasp the simple concept of why I am so dead set against denying people the ability to purchase firearms simply because their name happens to be on some 'suspected' watch list.
Their argument tends to be "Why do you want terrorists to be able to purchase guns?" which is a false dichotomy. I'm 100% for preventing terrorists from getting guns, but mostly by way of preventing them from drawing breath in the first place. And if you could show me a system that would readily identify them with an extremely low occurrence of false positives (and an easy way to fix those that are accidentally labeled), then I'd be all ears.
Just because you share a name with some nut-job should not automatically deprive you of your rights
My son Joshua e-mailed me this morning. I wonder if this is why I am on the "No Fly List" http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/31/us/31militia.html A ninth member of a Michigan-based militia accused of plotting to kill law enforcement officials was arraigned Tuesday. The accused, Joshua M. Stone, who was arrested Monday evening after the other members appeared in the Federal District Court here, was ordered held without bond until a hearing Wednesday. When I lived in Atlanta, there were pages of Robert Allens in the phonebook. PAGES. I wish I had the links, but my name ain't too far from John Smith in the 'man, your parents weren't very original, were they?' category. The chances of another Robert Allen getting his panties in a wad and doing something stupid to get his name on the list are pretty high. And to the VPC, Brady Campaign, or any other anti-rights organization, there is no need for due process – simply having a common name is all they think is required to convict you as a criminal.
Make no mistake about it. The anti-gun bigots have no concern for public safety or national security. Their goal is not to prevent terrorists from getting firearms, but to hassle the citizenry so much in their efforts to obtain firearms that they give up in frustration.
