Crazy homeless guy attacks lady. Cops show up and use a taser to no effect. Crazy guy charges cops. Cops decide to shoot. Breda makes a very, very salient point

Clevelander Rita Ciofani's friends say she had dedicated her life to helping the poor and vulnerable.

But as she lay dying, those sworn to protect and to serve used deadly force only to defend themselves.

Tasers, pepper spray, and all other non-lethal weaponry may sound good on paper. Often enough, they're not effective. If we were to listen to the bigots at the Brady Campaign, we'd all be relegated to relying on the cops to use the correct amount of force only when their lives are in danger.

As Breda said, carry your gun.

Also, to ensure I'm clear – I cannot fault the officers. They are given less than effective lethal tools and are more than likely under orders to attempt to use them as a first resort. The natural course of action is to use as little force as possible when the threat isn't pointed at you. That's why I argue that the citizenry needs to arm itself with no interference from the government. The cops are not necessarily going to use the appropriate amount of force. You can.
