A not so subtle jab?

I've always considered XKCD to be apolitical. The alt text to this comic though appears to be a jab at the Teleprompter Jesus.

Maybe it's just my politics coloring my judgment though.

Update – After reading it again, it's my political preferences coloring what I see. Knowing the author, he's more concerned about the failures of the process than Obama getting a shiny medal.

Maybe. Or it could refer to the IPCC scandals. Specifically the use of WWF, et al., produced papers as legitimate references for the more hysterical claims of doom. But I'm going with the Obama dig, too.

I do remember from reading the "blag," that he definitely came across as liberal. But, not so much overt politics is the comics.

I came to read XKCD from my college-age son, and found it wonderful. I would say the joke referenced is a hit specifically at the prestige of scientists (cuz anyone can just buy a white lab coat) and the rollover note is a hit at the prestige of Nobels in general, not anyone in particular.

I once attended a lecture by a Nobel laureate (in Chemistry) who was being lured to my university with offers of lavish funding, new lab space, and lotsa research assistants. He stood next to an overhead projector pointing at his transparencies with a pencil, and his shoulder blocked half the projected image.

After half a dozen slides, I worked up the nerve, raised my hand and pointed out the problem to him. He swung his head around to look at the screen (which moved his shoulder out of the way) and moved two inches or so further from the projector. Proceeding with his lecture, his shoulder now blocked only a third of the screen. No other grad student or professor in the packed hall bothered to interrupt him again.
