Washington state to discuss rendering the Libertarian Party moot

Well, they're talking about legalizing pot, which would have the same effect

What that means is if you are 21 or older you won’t face civil or criminal penalties for growing, possessing, transporting, selling, or using marijuana. Like with booze, you can’t smoke and drive or provide any to minors.

I've always said that to disband the Libertarian Party, legalize pot. Then, the vast majority of Libertarians would be too stoned to bother with politics.

Disclaimer – I say this in partial jest as I completely agree with the legalization of drugs and I realize not all Libertarians are pot heads.

However, if this goes through, I'd highly suggest investing in Frito-Lay stock.

I doubt there will be much increase in its use. Say Washington State legalizes. There will probably be an initial surge in use, and then the levels will fall back down to where the are now.
It's weed. It isn't exactly hard to get in the US. The people who smoke now will continue to do so, and the people who don't smoke it now will, after the initial Whoopee! celebration, go back to not smoking. It'll be a wash. And we'll all look back at the whole "debate" and laugh about how silly it was.

And maybe the cops can spend their time looking for criminals that, you know, HURT PEOPLE. Rather than the "criminals" that watch Sponge Bob in their jammies while eating funions.

(The Fact that funions are stocked in stores proves Myles' point, as I have yet to see somebody who WASN'T high eat and enjoy them)

Legalizing it at the state level only will accomplish f***-all. It's a nice symbolic step, but that's it.

I think that for at least the next 3 (or *shutter* 7) years they would be fine. I don't see the Obama administration cracking down. On the happy day that Obama finally moves out of the WH and the next guy moves in however, then it is time to worry.

Problem is, the next guy will probably be a Republican since America seems to be stuck on the whole two party thing. I don't see the Republican party moving much from their current statist jackboot thuggish ways so we'll probably start to see midnight raids across state lines like we saw in Cal. and their med mj laws again like we did under Comisar Little Shrub.

Oh, and don't think for a minute that since the Democrats have majority control that they will pass any laws to loosen federal statutes on mj so that the people in states that legalize will be left alone by the feds. That would be giving up too much power and as we know, the political elite (of both partys) see themselves as gods and power over peoples lives is their ambrosia. Not gonna give that up.
