Short lived when you think of it in those terms
Ry Can’t do the math here (on bus), but someone claims that the lifetime of a barrel is 4 or 5 seconds – the bullet in contact for a fraction of a second with each shot, and 10k shots or so. Higher-end barrels last a shorter time, of course. Maths are hard, but I did some basic calculations. Granted, muzzle velocity is not constant through a barrel, it's kind of interesting to think of how long the bullet stays in contact with the metal. Looking at standard .223 mv's, considering a...

Doesn't seem silly to me.
California Pizza Kitchen decided to not allow open carrying in their restaurants. A group has decided to boycott them. Some people find the boycott silly. So far, I like the blog in the link above. It's got a pretty good mix of politics with a bit more of a left leaning flavor. Generally, the comments have been more discussion than poo flinging. Feel free to drop in join in the conversation.

That'll wake you up
So this morning I was heading into work and I noticed a cop car behind me. Didn't really think much about it since I was only doing 72 (speed limit is 70). Until the &*(#! turned on his lights. I was like "Crap…" and started to pull over. The cop then passed me and pulled over a semi ahead of me instead. Looking at the cop as I passed, I realized it was my dad. Thanks, Pop!

Amazing capacity
So, today I picked up an internal terabyte hard drive for my server since the main drive was running out of space. Oh, there was 30G of space left to be sure, but that's cutting it close these days. So, at CompUSA, 1,000,000,000,000 bytes of storage was only $90. I remember picking up a one gig hard drive for several hundred dollars 15 years ago. So, now I have a Tb external drive, a Tb internal drive, plus almost a Tb spread amongst the other computers in the house. Nearly 3 whole terabytes...

I'm wearing brown today
As a celebration. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't consider Scott Brown the ultimate champion of liberty. He's not. As Bill Quick describes him It wouldn’t be possible in Massachusetts, for instance. Mitt Romney couldn’t have beaten Marsha Coakley. Sarah Palin could not have. Certainly Mike Huckabee couldn’t have. And Ron Paul would have been laughed out of the state. Scott Brown, a moderate, Rockefeller-style Republican, was the only sort of candidate who stood a chance, and so, because...

And a damned fine point it is
Montieth Does anyone find it odd that the FTC has regulations and laws that are apparently structured to control how bloggers advertise a product they review and how those reviews have specific rules on disclosure ? And yet it's legal for a campaign to pay people to stand around with campaign signs as if they were actual supporters and NOT disclose such??

That's been my experience as well
Woot memorializes Glenn Bell, creator of Taco Bell And that's been their business model ever since. Taco Bell sports a menu with myriad options but every single one of them consists of meat, beans, and cheese with either lettuce, tomato, or both. That's it. Sometimes it's shaped like a taco, or nachos, or a chalupa (whatever the hell that is), but the end result is the same: diarrhea and a solemn oath never to eat there again.

Secret Jesus bible codes
Trijicon apparently puts them on their gear. Which leads some Fundamentalist Atheist to declare a stamped coded reference to a bible verse is the EXACT same as "pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we're fighting" and a violation of the separation of Church and state. I get the whole not wanting a religion forced down your throat, really. In fact I'm in 100% agreement with the sentiment. But damn if some people don't make mountains out of...

At least his was based on something real The last time the Doomsday Clock minute hand moved was in January 2007, when it was pushed forward by two minutes, from seven to five minutes before midnight. Well, they're talking about legalizing pot, which would have the same effect What that means is if you are 21 or older you won’t face civil or criminal penalties for growing, possessing, transporting, selling, or using marijuana. Like with booze, you can’t smoke and drive or provide any to minors. I've always said that to disband the Libertarian Party, legalize pot. I've not ordered Domino's in probably a decade and have even turned it down when it was free. It's one thing to do customer focus groups and silently try to change your product, it's a completely different one to take the criticisms head on. Admitting...

Felons and guns
This story is sad. The Fail Boat set sail early in this one and touched many ports. Here's the short story. Dude pulls a burglary in 1990 and is convicted. Does his time. Gets married, settles down, has a kid. Someone breaks into his home so he calls police. Police come, he shows them around, even points them to his wife's .22 and .380 she owned before they met. He's now busted and back in jail. At 18, Luke Groves made a bad decision and ended up with a felony conviction. I don't know the...

Those peasant English archers were quite effective because if you were practiced with it, you could unleash an incredible storm of arrows with an effective range of hundreds of yards from the longbow.
