But damn if it doesn't jump up and down, pointing its fingers and going "Pssst! Look over THERE"
With just two days left in the year, according to preliminary numbers from the police department, the District has had 138 homicides compared with 184 at the same time last year, setting up the city to record the lowest number of homicides since 1964, when 132 were reported killed.
Now, nowhere in the article does it mention the fact that thugs now had to take into consideration that their targets might be armed ala Heller. Instead, it gives 100% of the glory to the cops and their "perfect storm" of crime-fighting strategies, including a new culture of communication within the police department.
Yeah, right.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am not suggesting that criminals read the newspapers and realized "Oh shnizzle. Dem beyotches can be now shootin' my ass" and that somehow, gun ownership magically prevents crime. I am also not discounting the fact that the police apparently stepped up patrols in the worst areas. Crime fighting is a) hard and b) multifaceted. It's too easy for people to point towards guns and say "See! That's the solution / problem".
But it is telling that the Washington Times doesn't mention anything about Heller as part of the decline. I guess when you're a statist, the only solutions you find worthy of reporting are those that involve your masters.
