Due to increased airline security, federal regulations require that all firearms remain concealed and loaded with frangible ammunition. If you are carrying a weapon, please let your stewardess know so that you may be placed at strategic locations throughout the aircraft.

C'mon Greg, I think we need to let the individual decide open/concealed. Let's mix it up and keep the bad guys guessing. Sure, open carry let's the bad guys target you first and let's everyone know you have made a decision to defend with lethal force. But every bad guy would also have to know that for every openly visible handgun, there are an unknown quantity of individuals armed with concealed firearms.
Handguns should be no more scary to the unitiated than a folding knife worn on the belt or a cell phone either in a pocket or in a belt holster. That's what we need to move toward IMHO.

The Wife came up with a brilliant plan a few years ago while we were waiting to board a flight.

Make all passengers strip to skin and issue quantity one, each, regulation wool blanket and Ka-Bar to all passengers at the gate. Clothing will be packed in clear bags and stowed with cargo and returned at the destination gate.

Flight security will take care of itself.

I think it is fair to say that Greg was being somewhat... sarcastic.

That said, I think I would still be concerned for the integrity of the aircraft skin, frangible ammunition or no. Sure, Mythbusters disproved the "it will EXPLODE THE PLANE!!!111!!" theory as best the could under the circumstances, but I surely do not want to be flying in a perforated plane.

Now, pocket knives, tasers, and ASPs, on the other hand...

I wholeheartedly agree - arm the passengers. One shot tasers may be more palatable, frangibles are good to go.

Oh, and a TAX FREE year for anyone using arms to prevent an airline hijacking/bombing/other as required/desired.

Linoge - Funny you mention that, since pre-9/11 I carried a pocketknife on flights.

Of course because a handful of crazies hijacked a plane with boxcutters and used it as a bomb the appropriate response was to further disarm passengers.

It seems victim disarmament is the default government response.
