I've named two of mine

Guns. Lots of Guns.

I like 'Birthmark' and am very curious to know the story behind 'Hymen'. Or maybe I'm not or at the very least, shouldn't be.

I know some people find it disdainful to name an inanimate object. I don't refer to my weapons by name, but the Mossberg got tagged with "Ugly Betty" and the M44 with "Sasha" just out of fun. However, in general conversation, they're referred to as... well, Mossberg and the M44. Here on the blog I might call 'em by name, but again it's just out of fun.

It doesn't bother me that people name their guns / cars / measuring cups. I know it gets under a lot of people's skin however and oddly, I can understand why. We strive to illustrate that guns are tools, inanimate objects with no mind of their own, and some guy comes along and ends up anthropomorphizing his.

However if, like me, it's nothing more than a label then I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's just hard to explain to non-gunnies I guess.

I've gotta say that my first P-07 got the nickname George. It comes from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon that goes something like "I'll hug him and kiss him and squeeze him and call him George."

I Honestly don't know why some people buy more than two or three of the same model of firearm. You're definatly supporting tha manufacurer, and good on you for that, but why would you spend money for something you already have?

Honestly, I think it's a little sad that the guy has umpteen ak's and another umpteen German guns, but no revolvers and no bolt guns. No 1911. This is a guy who writes the day of the week on the tag of his underwear and changes them at the stroke of midnight.

My NM AR is named Betsy, after Crockett's Betsy. The other NM AR is named R 11 because someone painted an "II" on the forearm.

My guess on Hymen? The gun was very tight when he first got it, drew some blood when the bolt slammed home on his finger, and has since loosened up to be a good shooter.

Well, I have named two of my rifles. The Swiss K-31 is "General Guisan", and the Finnish M-39 is "Belaya Smert", Russian for "White Death", both for obvious reasons.
I've never named my cars or tools, but I have referred to my car as "The Wee Beast" on numerous occasions.

I named my first car "The grey grenade" because it was nearly as fat around as it was long and you never knew when it was going to blow up on you.
