I wouldn't say that. Something is better than nothing, and that's all the way to "rock you can throw" being better than "empty hand".

My Gammo air gun with it's itsy .17 pellet @ 1000fps is better than nothing. Plus I could use it as a club.

With a non-existent recoil gun like a .22 rifle, hitting the right spot quickly is a very real possibility.

Also, I don't recall the survey specifying ,22LR.

I gots a gun chambered in .22 Hornet that will easily kill a deer, if hit in the right spot.

The two biggest problems with carrying a .22RF pistol are the poor QC of .22RF ammo, and the weak ignition in the typical pocket pistol. I cringe whenever I hear someone say they carry a NAA mini .22. Those things are wretched balls of fail, they're too small to even be a good paperweight.

AFTER you dump 6 or 10 .22LR pills into yonder bad guy, there is nothing to stop you from whaling on him with said empty gun.

Think of the initial hail of fire as "tenderizing".
