As is probably noticeable by my faithful readers, I've not been very active this week when it comes to posting. Life has intruded and I've just not had the time needed to get anything worthwhile up and running here.

Last Friday, I accepted an offer for a new job and as of Monday this week, I resigned from my current position. With my remaining 2 weeks, I am trying desperately to finish up my final project. Sure, I could just leave them with a half-assed chunk of code, but alas I have ethics that prevent me from doing this (stop laughing. I really do).

I have been at my current company for over 11 years. I started here August 18th 1998 as the Webmaster, doing everything from physically building the servers, installing the OS, getting networking running, designing the web sites, coding them, and maintaining everything. Eventually, software caught up and the need for a true webmaster was no longer there so I moved into more of a pure development role. My web skills came in handy when we moved many applications into a browser (too many, in my opinion. The browser is good for a lot of stuff, but not everything).

It's bittersweet that I'm leaving. I enjoy the people I work with tremendously. I even think my boss is fantastic. But the opportunities to stretch my development wings here have been severely limited. So, I've taken a new job that hopefully allows me to continue to expand my skills while benefiting my employer.

During this transition, I may be a little… quiet. Nothing makes your new boss question their hiring decision more than watching the new guy blog about guns. But as I ease them into the shock of their choice, things will get better. Promise.
