A while back, I wrote an article entitled Tyranny in Red Tights. Quite proud of that post as it was very down to earth, given my normal style of writing. In it I basically said
I bring this up because when most Americans think of a tyrannical government, they think of the "Devil in red tights, holding a pitchfork." They see Hitler with swarms of jackbooted army men with armbands, hands held in the air in salute, or 1984 where every person is part of the secret police and Big Brother is on every TV screen. None of these are "realistic" to us and when you think about them in that terms, it seems ridiculous that tyranny could ever happen here. And the trick is played on us once again. If, like the darkest fantasies of the extreme left believe, Bush actually canceled the 2008 elections, declared himself president for life, repealed the Bill of Rights, etc. the revolt would be instant and devastating. The devil would have overplayed his hand. No, tyranny will not come to us in one, fell swoop. Instead of red tights and a pitchfork, tyranny will come to us in a dull gray suit, a $12 Supercuts hairstyle, and come across with all the banality of a quarterly meeting of dental hygienists.

The more I watch the Obama administration, the more I think I was wrong in my article.
You see, I was under the assumption that American's would never consciously accept socialism. We'd be sold it in small bites which we'd happily digest and before you know it, we'd not know anything else.
With Obama's election, I lost a lot of faith that that was the case. He was blatant about his desire to redistribute wealth (as was Hillary!) and his socialist leanings were things he openly displayed, even if he called the other things, and the American populace ate it right up.
And now, our government seems to be in free fall mode. They realized the populace saw the red tights and pitchfork and didn't flinch, so they're stepping out from behind their façade and doing what they've long feared to do. The fact that they're getting backlash is a shock to them – Didn't you people already SAY you wanted this shit by electing the Chosen One?
The outrage is palpable. Hardcore leftists are bypassing any mealy mouthed platitudes toward democracy or liberty and gleefully cheering on the destruction of freedom. And the rest of the country is getting a good look at their red tights right now and having second thoughts.
This is why the government is pushing so hard for so much right now. We can only fight X number of battles, and at some point they're going to pass something that moves us toward their version of utopia. I assume their hope is that with some sort of power grab, even being voted out of office isn't that big of a hindrance to them.
The scariest thing is that while the Democrats are corrupt to the bone, there's nothing to replace them with. Sure the Republicans are chanting the prerequisite "Smaller Government" mantra now, but once they get back into power, that entire songbook goes out the window.
We the people need to bring out OUR pitchforks. And NOW is the time to do it. Keep showing up at the townhall meetings (unless your misrepresentatives are like mine and call them at the last minute then lock the doors), keep writing those letters, keep the pressure on. They may not give up their red tights, but at least force them to put something over it until we can get someone in there who'll respect our rights.
I'm not even sure he can get us out of it.
