If You're Reading This, You're Probably a Federal Criminal:
Radley Balko has an interesting post discussing the ever-expanding reach of federal criminal law. As he points out, the problem is not just that federal criminal law has expanded to cover many areas that are better left to state or local governments. It is that the scope of federal criminal law is so broad that the feds could probably find a crime to pin on almost any American adult.
Emphasis mine. Let me bring up a quote from Ayn Rand
There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.
Now, when the government needs to cow you into submission, they bring up that pesky 'i' you failed to dot on form 34-TD.1992. Since the populace has been brainwashed into thinking that all laws are valid (until they're a victim of one), then fighting the system becomes damned near impossible. It's why I fight so hard to stress to people what rights are and why they should never give them up, even if (or especially if) it's for the "greater good".
