Puppy Power

The pup managed to snarf 6 strawberry cupcakes (with paper liners) and several breadsticks from the counter this weekend.

We forget how tall she is. Apparently, there is no safe spot you can store food on the counters. Time to make a few habanero and Tabasco treats to leave up there.

Halved cherry peppers tucked inside chunks of steak or stew meat works quite well; the secret seems to be putting them in something that requires a certain amount of chewing. Might take a couple of applications to be fully successful, though.

Nah, had an American Bulldog once that decided to chew up an habanero plant. That was the first and last time she ever went near it. She never even finished the pepper, only managed to masticate it once or twice before she realized her mistake.

She avoided that area of the patio from that point on. No poop issues to deal with at all.

Umm... if the pup is anything like mine.. it won't matter.

Mine eats anything, halabrno peppers, Chinese peppers, onions, grapes, et al.

I've tried, and failed many times to give her something too spicy. Doesn't work.

My parents' Golden made the mistake of trying to eat my jerk sauce ONCE, and now she won't touch pretty much anything that smells like tomatoes, citrus fruit, or garlic.

My sighthounds (retired racing Greyhounds, Scottish Deerhound) are immune to hot or spicy foods. They have trained me, though, to never leave out anything remotely edible on any counter or table. Not a bad practice to follow in general anyway.

And if I accidentally drop food on the floor, I never have to bother looking for it.
