So, in my fantasy world where I actually have some cash to spend on toys, I've been thinking about what I would get if I had a few grand sitting around and could purchase a nice, new gun. Sure, I'd love a BMG and some year I think I might do it, however I'm still locked into the more practical mindset – I want something I can shoot the heck out of and would have a good use for.
I don't hunt, although I'd really like to, so a nice hunting rifle would do nothing but collect dust. So, I've thought more about home defense carbines since not only would I be able to shoot them, I'd have a use for them in case the SHTF.
The Kel-Tec RFB is one that I find interesting. A bullpup in 7.62 is a lot of gun in a small space. It runs about $1800 if my memory serves me right.
The other mindset revolves around pistol caliber carbines. If I'm going to do that, I'm going .45ACP since I already have .45 in my arsenal. And while a Thompson (or a clone) is cool, I don't own a fedora and pin striped suit which is a requirement. Besides, I admit it. As utilitarian as I am, I cannot help but lust after the Kriss Super V. Sure, for a little less I could get something along the lines of a Beretta Cx4 Storm, but nothing screams OPERATOR! like the Kriss.
Sure, I'm not SpecOps or anything, but for the home defense I can't think of much better. It's small enough to tote around corners, stable enough with the recoil system to plug plenty of lead where you need it without worrying about recoil messing up your aim, and it's cool enough looking so that the guy you shoot will be impressed as he hits the floor.
While I've not fired it, the videos I've seen show how controllable it is, which means I'd feel better about my wife being able to use it. She's got the shotgun if needed, but a 12 gauge isn't exactly recoil friendly.
I figure for sights a kick ass red dot would work good, or if Crimson Trace makes the forward grip with a laser that would work good too.
Ah… fantasies. I can own anything in my mind.
...but nothing screams OPERATOR! like the Kriss.
FYI Jeff I believe that BBL on the RFB pictured is 18"
