Jeff Soyer at Alphecca highlights this story about a true-blue liberal and his come-to-Jesus moment regarding guns
A terrifying example -
Now, before I go any further, I want you to understand one very important thing. Never before in my entire life was I so thankful to have a loaded gun in my hand as I was at that moment. Why? Because it gave my son and I a decent chance of getting out of this predicament alive.
I've said it so many times I feel like I have Tourette's syndrome – Having a gun does not ward off danger or prevent trouble from finding you. What it does is increase your chances of getting out of a situation alive.
He also says, again something I've repeated many times over
You take what you want from this diary, but let me just tell you this… When you advocate for handgun bans and gun control, I just shake my head. Obviously, you’ve never had to deal with a stranger threatening to take your life or the life of your family. Now, those kids that held me up at 7-11… I seriously doubt they got those guns through any legal channels. All a handgun ban would do is disarm me from protecting my family.

Being at home or walking down the street, it doesn't matter. A handgun under my control is no more a threat to you than a feather. Barring me from legally carrying does nothing to stop the criminal. To demand citizens give up their ability to own and carry a weapon anywhere is to ask them to submit to the whims of the criminals and is a morally abhorrent decision.
And to those who claim people should just carry pepper spray instead of a firearm, this same author had been held up as a clerk at a convenience store. Not only was he held at gun point, he was sprayed in the face as well. How effective was it?
I was so scared that I didn't even realize I had been sprayed with pepper spray until the cops showed up and were having trouble breathing. About half an hour later, the burning started to hit me. Apparently I had been in shock.
Not very.
I have every right to defend my life and the lives of the members of my family. I have the right to use the most effective tools for the job. And I have the right to do so anywhere regardless of some imaginary boundary drawn out by bigots.
Real conservatives never hated Bush. That's a distinctly liberal attitude.
Real liberals never hated the Clintons.
