Because I'm totally confused as to how this could have happened.

Girl, 17, shot by stepfather who then turned gun on himself

A teenage girl is seriously ill in hospital in Lincolnshire after she was shot by her stepfather who then took his own life by turning the gun on himself.

Would someone please explain how in a land full of gun laws and rights violations deemed necessary to protect the populace have something like this happen? Maybe they can also explain why England is now more violent than the US. And while they're at it, I'm totally unsure how the girl is still alive, especially when I'm constantly told that a handgun makes for easy killing.

This just seems so unpossible!

What gets to me as much as the man's having a (gasp) gun, is the attitude of the neighbors, who ran and hid in their house like cowards, instead of (cautiously) checking out the situation to see how they might be able to help.

So much to say about this. Natural attitude? Or conditioned response? Either way, Brits are getting what they (don't) deserve. And unless more Brits grow a spine and fight back against their two-legged oppressors (legal & illegal), their civilization will continue its downward sprial.

Guns are not illegal in Britain. The way the setting is described as a "village near" Lincolnshire, it sounds to me like the area could be suburban / semi rural. In most areas outside the big centers like London and Liverpool, the police will grant firearm licenses to people who are deemed to have justifiable need, as well as a mess load of other paperwork. The man in the story may well have been in a shooting club or have needed the gun for varmint control, both of which are justifiable to the police.
