Open carry church event? Yup. Just a PR stunt

When asked about why he required unloaded weapons he responded insurance reasons. Oh, and people can't be trusted

Just because a person owns a firearm, doesn’t means they’re safe and responsible anymore than a person who owns a vehicle means they’re a safe and responsible driver.

Both true statements, but if he believes that there's an increased danger from gun owners, then why did he invite the to service? Not everyone is a safe driver, but I still put myself on the road practically every single day of my life. I don't go having "driving" get-togethers then ask everyone turn off their engines and put their vehicles in park.

Usually you make a bold statement knowing it's going to piss off half of the people. This guy went and tinkled on everyone's cornflakes.

When I'm in need of mailing a large package through USPS, the law is that I disarm before I enter a mailing facility.

When I pick up my daughter from school, if I have to walk in the law requires I disarm.

The question I pose to you, then, is "So?"

When I first read this story, I thought it was a stunt (then found out the guns had to be unloaded and confirmed that it was). Why are people so squeamish about concealed carry in church? It reminds me of the man who prayed to God to save him during a flood. A boat came by and he said he was waiting for God to help him, a helicopter hovered overhead and he said we was waiting for God to save him, they dropped a life preserver and he refused that, waiting for God to save him. He drowned, went to Heaven and asked God why he hadn't saved him. God just looked at him and said, "What a dumbass!" People should do everything in their power to help themselves out (and others) so that God doesn't have to jump in every second to do it for us.

You'd think the author of "More Guns, Less Crime" would want to appear in places where there are a lot of guns if he truly felt that way.

I thought it was bizarre when I read some posts regarding a dinner he was attending and people were asked to come to the dinner unarmed because it was a private club and wouldn't be allowed. Why couldn't they have the dinner in another club that allowed guns? (The dinner was eventually cancelled or postponed, can't remember which.)

Anyway, I checked out his website and his speaking schedule and it appears that he primarily gives talks in schools -- which are gun free zones, right? I couldn't find a single speech he has given in a "gunny" place.

How come Republicans are "Do as I say, not as I do?" It appears John Lott is to guns as Rush Limbaugh is to drug abuse and Larry Craig is to homosexuality.

It appears, when you have no answer, you throw out something like this which just shows a lack of critical thought on your part. I asked "How come?" and I get "You, you, you."

So, back to the serious question: Have you ever heard of John Lott speaking in a place where there are lots of guns? An NRA function perhaps? A gun show?

OH NO! UBU has finally figured out the secret to our arguments! Not only has she realized that someone who works in academic circles has to do his job where academics are, but she's totally destroyed our line of reason with the Rush Limbaugh argument! I mean, Rush Limbaugh's drug use completely disassembles the right to self defense! I've never even listened to a show of his, but damn if that doesn't sting!

And John Lott, who I apparently according to UBU am authorized to speak for and she doesn't need to actually ask him his reason, has to speak at places that aren't gun friendly, so that means he's probably a hypocrite and therefore all his logic, even if it's right, is now wrong!!!!

I don't know what to do. I have all these facts lined up, but UBU has pointed to two unrelated people, picked some sort of 'fault' with them, and then smears everyone she disagrees with as a nasty Republican (shock to me. There's no R on my voter registration card. I guess I've been wrong all these years!).

And now, I should hate blacks too since, according to the bigot's logic, there are black people in jail so ALL black people are criminals.

Shall I continue with the sarcasm, or do you have a logical point to make?

However, not that I know John Lott personally nor do I speak for him, but for argument's sake, let's say he's never been to a gun show or NRA event.

I'm not going to write him because I doubt I would get a response back. I mean, what do you suggest I ask? "Hey John! Do you always try to disarm a group before you speak to them?" If I point out the specific dinner I mentioned above, I'm likely to get "It's not me, it's the event organizers."

Anyway.... I just found the whole thing curious...

I'm so sorry you aren't a registered Republican. I am! I'm going to vote for Sarah Palin in the primaries because she is just the BESTEST, dontcha think? :)
