By popular request, comment preview has been implemented. Take it for a test spin and let me know if you have any issues. It's all AJAX-ified to try to make sure the comment is as close to what would be posted as possible, so there could be issues with certain browsers. I admit 'testing' has been "push debug, write a comment, aaaaaaand seems to work for me".

If you have bugs, don't forget to let me know your browser / OS etc.

Nomen, I am old hat with this stuff. Core functionality should never really rely on scripting.

I try to make life easier with scripts, but if you disable them, you'll still be able to post comments.

No-Script is great. I keep it 'disabled' for the most part as Ad-Block Plus takes care of the majority of annoyances and not everyone is as old school as I am in their designs.

Preview shouldn't work with scripting blocked. However, rest assured there are no scripts here that are malevolent. No popups, no hidden cookie thingies. Now, I use Site Meter and Google Ads, and they may toss in crap that you don't want, but you could easily allow all scripts from this blog and be safe.

Testing? What's that? Some ancient, almost-forgotten ritual, or maybe one of those new-fangled approaches which does the same ol' thang, but fools the bosses into believing you're cutting edge?

Stress testing!

It's a pretty simple concept. There's a div that has its visibility set to collapsed. When you hit preview, it enables it, then makes an AJAX call to a web service that strips unallowed HTML and replaces breaks with <BR />. It's the same code used for saving off comments, so they should format identically.

The returned, sanitized text is then put inside a DIV tag. Pretty darned simplistic, but the AJAX call makes it a bit more complex. Wanted to do that so people weren't surprised when their <BLINK /> tag worked in preview but not for real.
