And they blame me for the comments heading south. Hell, I only got one in. I was blamed for calling the author a hypocrite, when what I said was "The funny thing is that you're position is hypocritical." not "You're a hypocrite". I have hypocritical arguments that are pointed out to me. If I continue to latch onto them, then yes, I am a hypocrite, but pointing out you are ok with violence so long as someone else does it while condemning violence isn't the same as saying "You're a hypocrite".

A few posts back, I've got a thread with 50 comments. No plans on shutting it down, even if it gets nasty. Practically everyone is welcome here, regardless of viewpoints.

Apparently, the head in the sand thing goes for her blog as well. It's best if we just ignore other points of view that might contradict our worldview.

I really feel sorry for anyone who thinks that "just ban it and it will disappear forever" is a viable solution for anything.

Beyond that, my hat's off to you for posting, Robb. There's some grade A PSH there...

Of course Weer'd. Remember, to an anti having the audacity to dissent IS inherently malicious and insulting. If it makes them "feel" uncomfortable, then it is a POV that will NOT be tolerated.

It's funny how each of these folks prove just how right I was when I wrote "Sad But Predictable."

I feel bad for her kids. I hope they have a dad who's a little more rational and grounded.

Wow... I read the blog entry that you are referring to earlier and couldn't help but read the comments. The culture shock was almost as bad as the culture shock I received upon exiting the US Marine Corps and having to deal with civilian people again. Thank the Gods that your post broke my downward spiral into that surreal land of bizzaar self delusion so that I could get on with my day.
Did anyone else read all of that and creap themselves out with the thought that these people are purposely putting themselves a little further down on the food chain? Last time that thought occured was when I took a blind date to a steak house and the girl turned out to be a vegetarian. Nothing against the veggies, but all that weaping was annoying.

Well, the comment I would have left at her site is instead listed here. So while her Reasoned Discourse may have made her feel better, and shut down the disucussion at her place, the debate and exposure of their various fears and irrational beliefs is instead spreading across the internet now, rather than just being confined in the comment thread.

Law of unintended consequences indeed.

Really, Reasoned Discourse was more-or-less inevitable when one of the commenters actually complained about us folks daring to bring statistics into the conversation... I mean, have you not heard? Only emotions and feelings matter when it comes to abridging people's rights!

*sigh* The sad thing is that immature children (and I do not mean Archer and Fable) like this are slowly-but-steadily taking over our country...

I haven't read all the comments on the other blog -- but have all of you here taught your young children how to shoot?

At what age do you think they should learn to hold a gun and pull the trigger?

UBU52, it depends on the child. There is no magic age. Some kids are mature enough to handle firearms at 6, some aren't mature enough to handle them at 36.

My oldest has already started with an air rifle. Unfortunately, it's still too big for her to handle without my help. I plan on getting her a Davy Crickett single shot .22 at some day (she wants the bright pink one).

My girls are also taught firearm safety. They both know what to do if they find a gun and the oldest even knows the 4 rules of firearm safety. She's also proven that she listens.
