Gun Myths

We took up arms from the police forces who deserted their units, broke into the Patriotic Guards arms caches (some sort of communist reserve force), joined forces with a few Army units that refused to obey the order to fire upon the civilian population, kicked Ceausescu out of his palace and on Christmas Day 1989 shoot the bastard and his wife dead.

Yeah, I've heard that old saw too. I like to respond thus: Yeah. Like the ragged, sick, underdressed and ill-equipped irregulars that took on the best army and navy in the WORLD, and founded the United States of America. And two centuries later, there were the ragged, underfed and ill-equipped commie bastards that beat us down and forced us to withdraw from Vietnam. And today,there are scraggly, scavenging desert rats who forced the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan, and seem to holding their own against the USA pretty well, thank you. Don't tell me you can't face down armor and superior technology. If you have the WILL to win, nothing can stop you. If you haven't that will, nothing can save you.

*yawn* To stop a tank, stop the tanker. Without diesel, it's just a deathtrap blocking traffic. There is no technology in the world that can defeat 90,000,000 free men armed with gasoline and matches.

Remind me someday to describe how to make a hyperbaric fuel-air bomb out of a 2-liter bottle, gasoline and a bicycle pump. Lots of energy in unleaded fuel.

I was a tank crewman in a former life. Tanks are not all that hard to get if their infantry support is no longer able (or willing) to support.

I wonder if the Romanian who wrote that lives here and is thinking, "Dammit, again? This is getting to be a habit."

The capture, summary military trial by serving officers, conviction and execution of that bastard and his family was the right way to overthrow a dictator.

A few more examples of this sort might give the Mugabes of the world something to think about. In fact, he would be an excellent example.
