DoubleTapper sends this fascinating look into Israeli counter-terrorism and the IDF. We here in the states had 9/11, which was a rude awakening to the realities of terrorism. We've managed to avoid anything of that scale, but rest assured we're not completely in the clear yet.

Israel, on the other hand, has to deal with it as a part of life.

Israel has learned over the years that terrorism is a stubborn phenomenon and that, in contrast to conventional warfare, decisive victory over terrorism is rare. When countermeasures block one avenue of attack, terrorists often improvise some new means of inflicting damage. After a series of aircraft hijackings in the 1960s forced Israel to improve aviation security, terrorists began to target Israeli embassies overseas. When security at embassies was strengthened, terrorists responded by attacking markets, buses, and pedestrians in Israeli cities.6 Accordingly, counterterrorism strategies must continually adapt to—and preferably anticipate—changing terrorist tactics.

I support Israel because I believe that if the terrorists would simply stop attacking them, all hostilities would cease. I also believe that if Israel stopped fighting the terrorists, Israel would cease to exist.

I know there's a lot more complexity involved here. I'm sure there are things that Israel could do better and that like here, politics get in the way of doing what's right. But no country deserves the abuse that Israel gets, and I'm sad to see our Teleprompter in Chief throw them under the bus.

We have our 'War on Terror'. Israel has theirs. I think they've gotten the short end of the stick, myself.
